A baby's excessive, unexplained crying can be soul-destroying for a new parent. But for some of those desperate mums and dads, the source of their child's distress could be the very food that's sustaining it.

Frequent crying for no apparent reason affects around one in five babies in the UK, and in some cases, it may be a symptom of cows' milk allergy.
