Ruth Murphy has been a consultant Dermatologist for 8 years and has a special interest in paediatrics and chronic inflammatory skin diseases in both adults and children including eczema and psoriasis. She carried out her PhD in the genetics of atopic dermatitis and how genetics influences eczema severity.
Ruth does two paediatric dermatology clinics per week at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham and with the help of the paediatric nursing team look after a considerable number of patients with severe disease eczema who are managed within specialised clinics with oral medicines.
Her adult dermatology work includes patients with atopic dermatitis who are too old to attend children's clinics and a specialised psoriasis clinic for patients on Biological therapies.
The adult clinics are held at the new Independent Treatment Centre. When asked about the role of supporter and carers Ruth said ”I understand how important it is to give appropriate support and care to the children and families of individuals with severe eczema and I am pleased to be part of the Eczema support group in Nottingham”.
